Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Marios Stathakopoulos (“Outsample”, “we”), a business established in Ontario, Canada, for the use of outsample.com and app.outsample.com.

1. The service

Outsample is a research tool. It searches and synthesizes a corpus of academic papers in quantitative finance and economics, generates syntheses, strategies, and critiques from them using large language models, and lets you upload your own papers for the same treatment. Output availability depends on the licence status of the underlying papers: where we can serve full text we do, and where we cannot, you get a synthesis with citations, a short quotation, and a link to the source.

2. Accounts

You need an account to use the app. You must be at least 18. Keep your credentials to yourself; activity under your account is yours. Tell us promptly at support@outsample.com if you believe your account is compromised.

3. Plans, credits, and billing

  • Tiers. Free, Pro at $39 per month, Ultimate at $70 per month, and Team, priced as stated on the pricing page. Each paid tier grants a monthly credit allowance that meters AI operations. Current allowances and what each operation costs in credits are stated on the pricing page, which is part of these terms.
  • Boosters. One-time credit purchases at $5, $10, and $25. Booster credit stays on your balance until used, and survives plan changes.
  • Billing. Payments are processed by Stripe, acting as merchant of record through Stripe Managed Payments. Your payment relationship for each purchase is with Stripe (shown as “Sold through Link” on statements and receipts); your product relationship under these terms is with us. Stripe handles payment methods, currency conversion, invoices, sales tax, VAT and GST where applicable, and payment-level support.
  • Renewal and cancellation. Subscriptions renew monthly until cancelled. Cancel any time in the app or through your Link account at link.com; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. On the Free tier, monthly allowances reset each month and do not carry over. On paid plans, unused included monthly credit does not carry over between months.
  • Price changes. We can change prices with at least 30 days notice by email; changes apply from your next renewal.

4. Your 14-day withdrawal right (EU and EEA consumers)

If you are a consumer in the EU or EEA, you have the right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days without giving a reason, as provided by the Consumer Rights Directive.

At checkout you are asked to confirm the following before the service starts immediately:

Start now. I expressly request that Outsample begin providing my subscription immediately, before the end of my 14-day withdrawal period. I understand that if I withdraw within 14 days, I will pay for the part of the service already provided, including credits already used, and that once the service has been fully performed I lose my right of withdrawal.

If you withdraw within the 14 days, you receive a refund of what you paid minus a proportionate amount for what was already provided, measured as described in the Refund and Cancellation Policy. The same applies to booster purchases, where credits already used count as service already provided. To withdraw, email support@outsample.com with a clear statement that you withdraw from the purchase; the Refund and Cancellation Policy describes the process and timing.

5. Your uploads

  • You keep ownership of every paper and document you upload.
  • You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store, process, reproduce, and transform your uploads solely to provide the service to you: indexing them, embedding them, sending them to model providers for synthesis, and showing you the results. The licence ends when you delete the upload or your account, subject to short deletion lags described in the Privacy Policy.
  • You warrant that you have the right to upload what you upload. Uploading a paper you have no right to hold or process is a breach of these terms. We respond to rightsholder complaints under our Takedown Policy, and content subject to a valid complaint can be removed from your account.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • share, resell, or pool account access, or circumvent credit metering;
  • use the service to violate the rights of paper authors or publishers, including systematically extracting restricted full texts;
  • probe, overload, or attack the infrastructure, or scrape the service by automated means outside any documented API;
  • upload malware or content you have no right to process;
  • use outputs to violate law, including securities and market-abuse law;
  • misrepresent Outsample outputs as human professional advice when passing them to others.

We can suspend or terminate accounts for material breach, including repeated copyright infringement. Where practical we warn first.

7. Financial disclaimer

This section is why the product can exist, so it is written plainly.

  • Outsample is a research tool. Nothing it produces is investment advice, a recommendation, or an offer to buy or sell any security or instrument.
  • We are not your adviser, broker, or fiduciary. No advisory or fiduciary relationship is created by your use of the service.
  • Outputs are generated by machine-learning models from academic papers. They can be wrong, in obvious ways and in subtle ones. Backtests and paper results do not predict live performance. Markets change; published anomalies decay.
  • Every trading and investment decision you make, and every result of those decisions, is yours alone. You bear all losses. Do your own verification before risking money, and consider taking advice from a licensed professional.
  • We make no warranty of profitability, accuracy, completeness, or fitness of any output for any purpose.

8. Intellectual property

  • The service, its software, its interface, and its curated corpus arrangement are ours or our licensors’.
  • Papers in the corpus belong to their authors and publishers and are served under the licence-aware rules in Section 1.
  • Outputs. As between you and us, you own the syntheses, strategies, and critiques generated for you, to the extent we hold any rights in them. Outputs draw on published research; they may cite, quote briefly, and summarize third-party works, and your use of outputs must respect those underlying rights.
  • Feedback you send us about the product can be used by us without obligation.

9. Availability and changes

The service is provided as available. We change, add, and remove features as the product evolves; we will not materially reduce what a paid tier includes mid-billing-period. Planned significant downtime gets advance notice where practical.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • the service is provided without warranties of any kind beyond those these terms state expressly, and implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement are disclaimed;
  • we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or trading or investment losses of any kind;
  • our total liability for all claims in any 12-month period is capped at the amounts you paid us for the service in that period.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or caps; where a law of your place of residence that cannot be contracted out of gives you a broader right, that law prevails over this section to that extent.

11. Indemnity

If a third party brings a claim against us arising from your uploads or your breach of Section 5 or 6, you will cover the losses and reasonable costs that claim causes us. This clause does not apply to consumers where the law of their place of residence does not permit it.

12. Governing law and venue

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario. Disputes go to the courts of Ontario. Two qualifications apply:

  • if you are a consumer, this choice of law and venue does not deprive you of protections granted by mandatory consumer-protection rules of the place where you live, and does not prevent you from bringing or joining proceedings your local law entitles you to;
  • nothing in these terms requires arbitration or waives any right to participate in a class proceeding.

13. Changes to these terms

We can update these terms. Material changes are announced by email at least 30 days before they take effect; continued use after the effective date is acceptance. If you do not accept, cancel before the change takes effect.
